Make a Little Room for Yourself

Did you know? Self-care can start with something as ordinary as eating lunch before you get too busy or giving yourself permission to rest.
It’s easy to spend the day taking care of everyone else. You answer the calls, handle the errands, and check on the people you love. Then evening comes, and you realize you haven’t checked in with yourself.
Start there. Ask yourself, “What do I need today?”
Maybe it’s a walk, a decent meal, a conversation with a friend, or a few quiet minutes with a journal. Choose something that fits your life and feels manageable.
Self-love also shows up in how you talk to yourself. When you make a mistake, try giving yourself the patience you would offer someone you care about. You can admit something went wrong without deciding that everything about you is wrong.
Psychologist Kristin Neff’s work on self-compassion encourages that kind of understanding toward ourselves.
This week, make one small promise to yourself—and give it a place on your calendar. Your needs deserve some attention, too.
What’s one thing you do that helps you feel rested or recharged?
